The webinar explores how value chains impact mountain Socio-Ecological Systems (SES), emphasizing their role in sustainable development by integrating human and natural processes for economic, environmental, and social benefits.
In mountain areas, the continuous adaptative interaction between bio-geophysical and socio-cultural processes assembles Socio-Ecological Systems (SES) characterized by a great diversity of ecosystems and land uses, providing substantial support for the livelihoods of mountain communities and essential ecosystem services for uplands and lowlands. During the webinar, taking value chains as an operational unit of analysis to examine the interactions of human-natural systems that mobilize resources to generate economic, environmental and social values, we will characterize the contribution of value chains to the sustainable development of SES.
